Media freakout about cold weather in Los Angeles

While we were in class today, the official Twitter account for the National Weather Service Los Angeles (@NWSLosAngeles) posted a “blizzard warning” cautioning folks about “extremely dangerous mountain conditions” in the mountains of Southern California. Apparently the first blizzard warning ever for this area. Naturally the local news was having a field day. All joking…

While we were in class today, the official Twitter account for the National Weather Service Los Angeles (@NWSLosAngeles) posted a “blizzard warning” cautioning folks about “extremely dangerous mountain conditions” in the mountains of Southern California. Apparently the first blizzard warning ever for this area.

Naturally the local news was having a field day.

All joking aside, it makes me think about some discussions we’ve had in class, like how to prepare for the unprecedented. Fortunately this event does not seem to have been very dangerous (yet! fingers crossed) but had a more serious situation unfolded, the fact that such weather patterns are rarely experience here seems to indicate there probably are not a lot of systems in place to prepare for them.
